Location

GeoPedal records your GPS position while a ride is active, and uses those positions to work out the territory your route encloses. With your permission it keeps recording while your screen is locked during a ride. It does not record your location at any other time.

The positions from each ride are stored on our server. Only your own account can read them. They are kept until you delete your account.

What other riders see

The territory you claim is drawn on the map in your color with your handle on it, and other riders can see it. The shape is the outline of the land your loop enclosed.

Your handle, your territory color and your profile photo are visible to other riders too, on the map and on the leaderboards.

Your ride routes, your ride history and your home zone are not.

Your home zone

You can set a home zone: a point you pick and a radius of 250 m, 500 m or 1000 m. The default is 500 m.

The home zone does one thing. When a ride passes near that point, the share card for that ride opens on the photo layout instead of the map layout, so a map of the ride is not the default image. You can switch it back to the map before you share.

It does not hide, move or blur territory. Territory you claim inside your home zone is on the map like any other territory. If there is ground you would rather not have on the map, do not claim it.

Profile photos

A profile photo you add is stored at a public web address. Anyone who has that address can open the photo without signing in. Deleting your account deletes the photo.

Account

You sign in with Apple, and Apple gives us the name and email address on your Apple account.

We store your handle, your territory color, your birth year, your profile photo if you add one, your rides and your territory.

You must be 13 or older to use GeoPedal. Birth year is what we use to check that.

Notifications

If you allow notifications, we send you one when another rider takes your ground. Its text names the rider who took it and a place name near where it happened.

Notifications are delivered by Expo's push service, so the text of each one passes through Expo and then Apple on its way to your phone. You can turn notifications off in settings.

Who else handles your data

• Apple — sign-in. Passes us the name and email on your Apple account, and delivers notifications to your phone.
• Supabase — hosting, database and file storage, in the United States. Everything listed on this page is stored there.
• Expo — notification delivery. Receives your device's push token and the text of each notification.
• OpenStreetMap Nominatim — place names. Our server sends it a coordinate from the area a notification is about and gets back the name of a nearby place. Nothing about your account is sent.
• CARTO — map tiles. Your phone requests tiles for the part of the map you are looking at, so CARTO sees those requests and your IP address. Nothing about your account is sent.
• OpenStreetMap Overpass — road data, used on our server to build routes for the computer-controlled riders. Receives map coordinates only, and is not running at the moment.

We do not sell your data and we do not give it to advertisers.

Share cards

A share card is an image you make and send yourself. It goes only where you send it.

Seasons

Territory is cleared when a season ends. Your account and your rides are not.

Deleting your account

You can delete your account in the app. It removes your rider profile, your territory, your rides, your home zone, your profile photo, and the sign-in itself.
